DJ Premier Interview with Vibe [Article]

April 28, 2010 1 comment

DJ Premier recently sat down with Vibe to speak on the recent events/issues pertaining to Guru’s death. In the candid interview, he addresses Guru’s deathbed letter, Solar tarnishing Guru’s legacy, Guru’s gay rumors & more. Read the full article here.

On Guru’s Deathbed Letter
“Well, I would love to see that letter. I would love to see the handwriting. Because I know Guru’s handwriting like the back of my hand with all the bills we had to pay together. I know it’s not him.”

On Solar Tarnishing Guru’s Legacy
“Guru was able to get two gold albums; he was able to do the Jazzmatazz album. So everything that we gained makes you think, “You mean to tell me you are going to blow it all away and act like that’s not an important part of what made us who we are?” With a silly ass letter like that??? When you say ‘Ex-DJ’ where is my name at? Because there are two other DJ’s that was DJing with Guru besides me. There was Doo Wop and Shawn Ski, who was our backup DJ when I had to go back to college. He always held us down. Calling me the ex-DJ doesn’t mean anything to me. Why don’t you just say Christopher Martin?”

On Guru Gay Rumors
“I don’t believe it. All these little rumors about Guru and some other shit… it can’t be. Because he had too many women.”

Lil’ Wayne Covers Ozone Magazine’s Sex Issue x Excerpts

April 26, 2010 Leave a comment

Lil Wayne covers the front of Ozone Magazine’s “Sex Issue” which will be hitting newsstands soon. Peep the cover above and check some of the excerpts in which he talks his relationship with Shanell, The Carter Documentary and more.

There was some controversy over the release of The Carter documentary. Did you feel like they emphasized the drug addiction aspect too much? Is that the reason you didn’t want it released?
The fact that we didn’t want it released was business; paperwork. I feel like, if I agreed to have that camera around me, then I can’t tell that person what to edit when they go to the editing room, unless I am in the editing room and editing with them. If I’m not then I shouldn’t complain, but I was supposed to have a say-so because I had to approve it. And that was the whole [problem]. I didn’t approve it and they still put it out.

You worked with Shanell a lot on the Rebirth album. Was it more of a musical connection at first and then became more personal, or vice versa? Since when did it become a personal thing?

That’s a rumor, sweetheart. No, it’s never been a personal thing. As far as us being friends, yeah. That’s my friend. Shanell is a great artist and that’s it, period. She’s a Young Money great artist. I heard a rumor that she was pregnant from me. How could that be? We’ve never had sex. How could she be pregnant from me? You’ve got to have sex to be pregnant. That’s one of the things you have to do. I don’t understand how people’s brains work. You know? I’m a really big person. I’m a real superstar. I’m not afraid to tell you or nobody else, you know? I die every week [according to the rumors]. I’m in jail right now [according to the rumors].

So the intrusion into your personal life bothers you?
No, it bothers you, because you have to actually think if it’s true or not and come sit down and ask this dumb ass s**t. I know you have to feel stupid, because it’s like me sitting here and looking at your [brown] hair and asking you, “Since you dyed your hair green, how do you feel?” Your hair obviously isn’t green.

Scarface Planning To Remake Cuts From BDP’s ‘Criminal Minded’

April 23, 2010 Leave a comment

Uncle ‘Face recently let the cat outta the bag regarding a rumor he was preparing to remake some classic cuts from Boogie Down Production’s Criminal Minded LP:

HipHopDX: I need to ask you about something a little birdie told me recently: is it true that Scarface is remaking Boogie Down Production’s classic Criminal Minded album?
Scarface: Not the whole album, but I’m making some [of it]…

DX: So [you’re saying] just a few songs [from the album]…?
Scarface: I’m thinking so. Um…I haven’t really came to the conclusion yet of what I’m gonna do with it, but I know for a fact that I’m remaking “9mm Goes Bang,” along with “Poetry” and shit like that. I just feel like – And it’s not for a personal gain, it’s a respect thing. I’m [paying respect by remaking] [KRS-One's] whole fucking shit. I feel like he deserves that compliment. Like muthafuckas forget where it came from, man. I remember growing up in junior high school, and like my first couple years that I spent in high school, I fucking had that rhyme scheme. I wrote my rhymes like that [mumbles cadence from “Poetry”]. I was that!
