Eminem x Slaughterhouse Cover XXL (March)

January 19, 2011 Leave a comment

Goes on sale February 8th.

A few more excerpts below and Marshall speaking of the latest additions:

With the new Shady in tow, Eminem may be ushering in a return to wordplay in hip-hop, something that hip-hop heads have been missing from the genre for quite some time. “It just feels good to put lyricism in the forefront again, in my eyes,” Joell Ortiz says in the article. “Some of my heroes, when I came up rhymin’, were Biggie Smalls, Big L—rest in peace to all these—Big Pun. Dudes who were passionate about the way they put words together, the message they sent when they rhymed, and just bein’ ill with the pen. And I feel like this group, and Yelawolf and Em, are dudes who stand for that. And it’s good to see the pure form gettin’ shine again.”

Em talks Yelawolf and Slaughterhouse:

“I saw the video to ‘Pop the Trunk,’ and I was like, ‘Yo, this is fuckin’ dope,’ Em says. “I took the CD home that I had already had and started listening to the shit, and I was like, ‘Fuck, he can spit.’”

“Slaughterhouse, it’s kinda phase two of Shady, The new generation of Shady Records.”

Ms. Minaj saves the best for last, as she closes out the year with her most tasteful cover yet. In the latest issue of KING, the YM diva discusses the possibility of acting in the future, what sort of roles she’d play, and the type of of men she prefers. More excerpts below:

History has shown that acting is the likeliest transition for rappers. Considering your background, do you want to dabble in Hollywood?

NICKI MINAJ: Of course.

What would be your dream role?

I’d like to play someone in a Tim Burton movie, where I get dressed up and painted and crazy.

You kind of do that now.

Then I want to be able to do some action stuff, like Angelina Jolie.

Eminem Covers Rolling Stone + Excerpt

Eminem graces the cover of the latest issue of Rolling Stone hitting newsstands everywhere this Friday. Peep an excerpt below:

Rolling Stone Josh Eells sits down with Eminem at his Detroit recording studio for a revealing interview about the rapper’s long battle with prescription drugs, his difficulties with women and the pain of being abandoned by his father at six months old, as well as his incredible musical comeback.

Do you think it’s hard for you to trust women?
I have trust issues. With women, friends, whatever. You always wonder what their real motives are. I’ve got a small circle of friends, and it’s a lot of the same friends I’ve known forever. Right now, that works for me. I came out of some difficult things these past couple of years. I kind of feel like I’m just now finding my footing. So I want to make sure that’s secure before I go out and do anything else. I need to keep working on myself for a while.

What about your love life? Do you date?
Not really. As far as going out, like dinner and a movie—I just can’t. Going out in public is just too crazy. I mean, I’d like to be in a relationship again someday. Who doesn’t? It’s just hard to meet new people, in my position.

Soulja Boy On Vibe’s First Ever Digital Magazine

This could very well become the fate of all magazine publications, sooner or later. Aside from a few magazines here and there, I myself, don’t really see the need to dig in my pockets to purchase mags anymore.

I mean, things have clearly changed since my high school years, nearly a decade ago, when I was an avid fan of every Hip Hop oriented magazine. It was just fun back then. Catching up on all the latest news, seeing the newest fashion, and etc.

And now that the internet has (fully) taken over, making everything accessible to music fans (scans, music, excerpts, etc,) many of you may feel the same way–why buy magazines? I’m not sure you would actually categorize this as ‘history’ or whatnot, but in all actuality, this is just a sign of the times. Digital…digital…digital, it’s the only way to go. Hit the jump for DeAndre’s magazine cover.
